Who We Are

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse who has a master’s degree or doctorate in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients. NPs have extensive clinical training and national certification in their area of expertise.

NPs specialize in areas such as pediatrics, geriatrics, family and women's health. In a clinical setting, NPs perform physical examinations, treat patients for acute and chronic illness and prescribe medications as needed.

NPs also provide services such as family planning, healthcare during pregnancy, health-risk evaluations, mental health treatment and counseling, health education and wellness promotion, and referral to other health care specialists.

NPs are a key part of collaborative healthcare teams that provide affordable, high-quality, patient-centered care. Yet Michigan is one of just 11 states that severely restrict an NP’s ability to practice. That needs to change.
